About Platinum Iridium Marker Band
Radiopaque marker bands can be used in medical device industry, including minimally invasive surgery. And they are typically made from the high density metal, such as platinum, Pt/Ir, gold, and tantalum.
Platinum-iridium (Pt/Ir, Pt/Ir10) alloy is one of the alloys with the most stable chemical, mechanical, and electrical properties. It has the characteristics of high strength, high elasticity, low contact resistance, and good biocompatibility and is an ideal material for implantation and interventional surgery. The Pt/Ir (PtIr) ring is commonly used for the catheter radiopaque bands (marker bands), implants, angioplasty, ring electrodes, contact rings, retention sleeves, etc.
Applications of Platinum-Iridium
- Marker Band, which can be used as a catheter positioning marker ring for X-ray imaging marking of the remote working area in interventional therapy. Because interventional therapy is mostly minimally invasive, the catheters used (such as guide tubes and balloon catheters) are mostly soft plastics with extremely thin diameters, thus requiring small sizes and high dimensional accuracy of the marker bands. We can currently manufacture marker bands with OD ranging from a minimum of 0.2 mm to a maximum of 12.48 mm. The accuracy can be customized to meet customer requirements.
- Ring Electrode and Contact Ring. Because platinum-iridium alloy has stable chemical properties, is not easy to oxidize, has good biocompatibility, high hardness, and good electrical conductivity, it is often used as a conductor material for medical devices and a plug-in electrode material for biomedical sensors. In addition to ring electrodes, we can also provide special-shaped micro platinum-iridium electrodes and other platinum-iridium precision machined parts.
Pt/Ir alloy is typically the platinum/iridium 10% (Pt90/Ir10) alloy. It is a traditional material for the marker bands. Marker bands are a kind of marking rings used as X-ray development marks in the distal working areas in interventional therapy, which belong to disposable medical materials. We can also provide the Tantalum Marker Band, which is a substitute of the Platinum (Pt) and Pt/Ir marker band, due to its lower cost.
Our seamless tubing for radiopaque marker bands conforms to stringent dimension tolerances and the high quality level. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more details. We can offer tantalum, gold, platinum, and Pt/Ir marker bands.
TRM also provide marker bands with laser cutting patterns, Platinum Iridium Microelectrodes, and other Precious Metal Micro Machined Parts.
