Molybdenum Carbide (Mo2C) Powder
Product Molybdenum Carbide Powder (Mo2C Powder)
Part Number Mo10
CAS Number 12069-89-5

Molybdenum Carbide (Mo2C) with a molecular weight of 203.88 and carbon content 5.89% is a dark gray metallic powder. Its crystal is a close packed hexagonal lattice. The density is 9.18 g/cm3 and the melting point is 2690°C. It has the characteristics of high melting point and hardness, good thermal and mechanical stability and good corrosion resistance. It is insoluble in water and alkali liquor, slightly soluble in nitric acid, sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid.

Molybdenum is a silver white refractory metal with a melting point of 2615°C, a density of 10.2 g/cm3 and a small expansion coefficient, which is almost the same as that of the special glass of the electron tube. Molybdenum is stable at room temperature and oxidizes rapidly above 600°C. It reacts with carbon, hydrocarbon or carbon monoxide at higher than 800°C to form molybdenum carbide.

TRM can provide the Molybdenum Carbide (Mo2C) Powder as required. Please contact us for more details.

Typical Application of Molybdenum Carbide (Mo2C):

As a new functional material with high melting point and hardness, good thermal and mechanical stability and good corrosion resistance, it has been widely used in various fields such as high temperature resistance, abrasion resistance and chemical corrosion resistance.

With electronic structure and catalytic properties similar to noble metals, it can be widely used in reactions involving hydrogen, such as alkane isomerization, hydrogenation of unsaturated hydrocarbons, hydrodesulfurization and denitrification. With high hardness, wear resistance and scratch resistance, it is an important component of molybdenum carbide hard coating and other cermet coatings. It can also be used as wear-resistant and scratch resistant coating alone.

Main Catalytic Reaction Types of Molybdenum Carbide:

  1. Hydrogenolysis reaction
  2. Hydrodesulfurization HDS and hydrodenitrification HDN reaction
  3. Isomerization reaction
  4. Hydrocarbon conversion and synthesis reaction
  5. Application in ammonia synthesis
